Trailer tracks crooked and scrubs tires
2017 travel trailer, tandem axles on leaf springs with equalizers. Unhitched on a level shop floor, on its wheels
Customer says: It doesn't follow straight behind the truck. It sits off to the right. The tires are wearing funny and they're only a year old.
All four tires are feathered: every tread block is worn sharp on one edge.
Tests you can run
- Tire pressures, cold
- Look at the wear on all four tires
- Frame on rated stands, wheels off the floor: rock and spin each wheel
- Look at the hangers, equalizers and shackles
- Back on its wheels: measure from the coupler center to each front spindle center
- Measure front spindle center to rear spindle center on each side
- Look at each spring seat, center bolt and U-bolts
- Torque check the U-bolt nuts on every spring seat
- Replace the tires
