Only one landing gear leg moves
2018 fifth wheel, electric landing gear: one motor on the roadside leg, a cross shaft to the curbside leg. Hitched and locked to the shop truck, trailer wheels chocked, landing gear feet off the ground, battery 12.7 V
Customer says: I was lifting the front off the truck and heard a bang. The trailer leaned toward the door side, so I hooked back up and brought it in.
The roadside leg is extended farther than the curbside leg.
Tests you can run
- Run the landing gear up and down with the feet off the ground
- Volts at the motor while it runs
- Paint-mark the cross shaft and each leg's input shaft, then run it
- Look at the cross shaft joint at the curbside leg
- Compare the hardware at the two cross shaft joints
- Turn the curbside leg's input shaft by hand, cross shaft free of it
- Measure how far each inner leg is out, feet off the ground
- Unhitch and lift the front on the landing gear to see what it does
- Replace the landing gear motor and gearbox
