Safety

Before every job

Coach chocked, leveled, and stable

Fire extinguisher within reach

Know where shore power and the tank valves are shut off

Jewelry off. Eye protection on

Electrical

120V: treat as live until you have measured it. Use a CAT III meter. Shut it off and lock it out before touching terminals.

12V: batteries can deliver huge current. Fuse close to the battery. Disconnect the negative first, reconnect it last.

Never put 12V or more on any pin of the electronic boards. Only ONE power source per board at a time.

Gas and heat

LP leak: no switches, flames or sparks. Tank valve off, ventilate, evacuate.

CO: if an alarm sounds, get out, then ventilate. Never defeat an alarm.

Never bypass a safety switch (ECO, high limit, pressure switch) to make an appliance run.

Motion and lifting

Slides, jacks and awnings can crush. Never work under a coach on jacks alone. Use jack stands or cribbing.

Roof and ladders

Three points of contact. Check the roof is rated to walk on. Watch for wet or slick membrane and for power lines.

If you are unsure

Stop. Ask. A rule of thumb in this guide is never a reason to skip the manufacturer manual.
