Power steps
Power steps run off a door switch and a controller. Most problems are the door switch, the controller or the motor.
The short version
- Check the door switch and its wiring.
- Check 12V and ground at the controller and the motor.
- Clean and lube the linkage. Dirt makes them bind.
- Steps that won't retract going down the road need fixing before the unit leaves. It's a safety issue.
On the job
- Red to green at the module: 12V. 20 A fuse or breaker on the main feed.
- Brown: 12V with the door closed, 0 V open. Wrong = door switch or magnet.
- Yellow: hot only with the ignition on. White: override switch.
- Motor test: battery + to yellow, – to red extends; reverse to retract. Motor runs = module. Dead = motor.
- Lube every 30 days with penetrating grease. No WD-40, no silicone.
Numbers
- Main fuse: 20 A
- Ignition / door switch fuses: 6 A / 5 A max
