Water heater
A guided diagnosis for RV techs. Each step is a check, a reading or a question.
- Which water heater is in front of you? Read the label on the unit behind the outside access door. Tank heaters have a 6 or 10 gallon tank and a relief valve on the front. Tankless units have a big burner box and a digital controller inside. Expect: Model and serial on the data plate inside the access door
- What does the data plate say? Suburban plates say SW6D, SW6DE, SW10DE, SW12DE and so on (E means electric element). Atwood/Dometic plates say GC6AA, GC10A, G6A, GCH10A. Tankless plates say GSWH (Girard), FWH (Furrion), or AquaGo (Truma).
