Range + cooktop: suburban/airxcel
Specs
GAS PRESSURE|11 to 14 in. W.C. (14 in. maximum supply)
THERMOCOUPLE OUTPUT|About 18 mV screw-in type; about 4 mV plug-in type (heated)
OVEN BURNER|7,100 BTU
Oven pilot won't light
Gas supply on and not empty.
Pressure 11-14 in. W.C.; leak check.
Pilot orifice or tubing restricted or kinked.
Pilot won't stay lit when the knob is released
Hold the knob in at least 5-7 seconds after lighting so the thermocouple heats.
Thermocouple: tight connection, flame hitting the tip, mV output (above).
Knob hitting the range front so the plunger can't reach the magnet.
Plug-in thermocouple models: micro-switch engaged.
Still drops = bad magnet in the control: replace the control valve/manifold.
Other oven faults
MAIN BURNER WON'T LIGHT|No gas to the burner|Pilot must be lit first. Check orifice and pressure to the main burner; replace the oven control if bad.
MAIN BURNER FLUTTERS|Air or pressure|Adjust air shutter; check pressure and orifice.
PILOT POPS/GOES OUT WHILE BAKING|Pilot burner, control or tubing|Check pilot burner, gas pressure from control to pilot, kinks or leaks.
POOR BAKING|Usually setup|Preheat 10+ minutes; vent not blocked; sensing bulb in its clip at the top of the oven; thermostat is factory calibrated and NOT field adjustable.
Normal: the oven burner runs full until temperature, then drops to a small flame to hold it.
Cooktop
BURNER WON'T LIGHT|Ports or pressure|Clean ports with a small wire or pin (don't enlarge, never a wire brush). Check propane pressure.
WON'T LIGHT WITH PIEZO|Ignition|Piezo wires at the electrodes; electrode spark; piezo itself. Battery spark models use 1 AAA.
FLAME LIFTS OFF|Pressure too high|Have pressure checked (11-14 in. W.C.).
YELLOW FLAME (sealed burners)|Alignment|Orifice holder bracket out of position relative to the burner tube.
Burner blows out: knob OFF and wait 5 minutes before relighting. Air in the lines after a tank refill or servicing can delay ignition, then light suddenly. Light one burner at a time.
