RV toilets
Most RV toilet complaints come down to the water valve, the bowl seal, or what's under the floor. Figure out which one before you order parts.
The short version
- Bowl won't hold water: the ball or blade seal at the bottom isn't sealing. Clean it and check it for wear.
- Water keeps running into the bowl or leaks behind the toilet: look at the water valve and its fittings.
- No water when you flush: check the pump and fresh tank first, then the valve and any inline strainer.
- Leak at the floor: check the closet flange bolts and the floor seal before blaming the tank.
- Odor in the coach: make sure the bowl holds water, the black tank vent isn't blocked, and the floor seal is good.
- Freezing cracks toilet valves. Ask whether the unit was winterized.
Numbers
- Bowl seal: clean, conditioned, replace if it won't hold overnight
- Freeze damage: cracked water valve runs constantly
Shop tip
Use the seal lubricant the toilet maker recommends. Some household products can swell or damage the rubber seals.
