Plumbing leaks and fittings
Most fresh water leaks are at fittings, not in the line. The pump cycling on its own is the giveaway.
The short version
- If the pump cycles with all faucets closed, there's a leak or a bad check valve.
- Follow the line from the pump. Check every fitting, especially near the water heater and under sinks.
- Know the fitting type before you fix it. Use the right crimp, clamp or push-fit parts.
- After the repair, pressurize the system and watch it for a while.
