Leveling: ground control

What it is

Lippert Ground Control 3.0 electric leveling (4 point or 6 point) with a touch pad, a controller, hall-effect jacks and a rear sensor. It is for leveling only.

NEVER use the jacks to lift the coach for tires or underbody work. Use jack stands. Never lift the tires off the ground.

Before you diagnose

Battery fully charged and testing above 12 V under load

Coach on reasonably level, solid ground. Soft ground: use pads

People, pets and objects clear of the coach

Cycle the touch pad power off and on between leveling runs

Test each jack in MANUAL mode. If manual works and auto fails, think sensor, zero point, or ground

Touch pad errors

Excess Angle|Controller is not secured or the coach angle went too far|Secure the controller. Move the coach to flatter ground.

Feature Disabled|Front is below level when starting, no touch pad power cycle, or zero point not set|Manually retract the rear (and middle) jacks, set the front jacks at hitch height, power the touch pad off and on, then set the zero point.

Low Voltage|Battery dropped below 10.8 V|Test the battery under load. Charge or replace it. Check the wire size and connections.

Out Of Stroke|A jack reached max stroke, or a high-amp stall|Check the jack positions. Move the coach. Test that jack manually or use manual override. Check for a bent jack.

External Sensor|Bad link to the rear sensor|Repair or replace the rear sensor harness and plugs.

Jack Time Out|Auto operation ran longer than allowed|Check the jack positions and movement. Check for slow jacks and low voltage.

Auto Level Fail|Ground too uneven, or the zero point is wrong|Move the coach. Reset the zero point.

Comm Error|Touch pad and controller lost communication|Check the harness for damage and loose plugs. Replace if damaged.

Bad Calibration|Sensor calibration out of range|Replace the controller.

Internal Sensor|Controller sensor problem|Replace the controller.

Hall Effect Short|Short in a hall-effect circuit|Test and repair the short. Replace the jack or harness as needed.

PANIC STOP|A touch pad button was pressed during auto operation|Restart the auto operation. Do not touch buttons while it runs.

Special jack errors (one jack named)

Messages like LF, RF, LM, RM, LR or RR Jack mean a fault at that jack: a hall signal problem (open, short, lost signal), or an open or short between the controller and that motor.

Check the harness plugs at the controller and at the jack. Look for damaged wiring. Check the fuses at the controller. Repair or replace.

To clear a special jack error the jacks must be HOMED (retracted at least 6 inches). See Homing below.

Homing the jacks

Needed after adding or replacing a part. Extend all jacks (front, rear, and middle by pressing LEFT and RIGHT together) so each can retract at least 6 inches. Then press and hold RETRACT until every jack reaches its hard current limit. Jacks are now homed and the special error clears.

If the jacks will not retract an error shows, usually a wiring break.

Zero point calibration

Level the coach in manual mode using a real level on the floor (front to back and side to side)

Turn the touch pad OFF

Press and release FRONT 5 times, then REAR 5 times

Pad beeps and flashes: ZERO POINT CALIBRATION. Press ENTER to set it

Wait for Zero point set successfully. The pad turns off

Manual override (motor)

Unplug the jack motor power harness first. Use a 12 to 18 V cordless drill or pneumatic driver, NEVER an impact driver.

Top of motor: remove the rubber plug, put a 3/8 inch drive ratchet or extension (no socket) in the port, and turn. Bottom of motor: remove the rubber plug, use a 5/16 inch socket on a 3/8 drive, and turn.

Support the coach with jack stands at the front and rear before service.
