Fridge: norcold

Which Norcold is it?

These code meanings are for the Norcold 1200 series absorption fridges. Other series (older N6, N8 and others, and compressor models) can differ. Read the model label first.

Fault codes (1200 series)

no co|No cooling detected|The fridge is on but not getting cold. Check level, vents, heat source (LP and 120V), then run the full-run test. A cooling unit that failed gives this code.

no FL|Burner did not ignite or re-ignite|LP valve open, tank has gas, burner tube clean, electrode gap and spark, 12V good, regulator pressure. Check for a blocked flue.

no AC|No 120V AC available|Check the shore or inverter, breaker, GFCI, cord, and the 120V plug at the fridge.

AC LO|120V is too low|Measure at the fridge under load. Fix the supply: pedestal, long cord, inverter or loose connection.

dc LO|12V control voltage too low|Charge or replace the battery. Check voltage drop on the supply wire and ground. Needs about 10.5 V or more.

dr|Door open more than 2 minutes|Close the door. Check the door switch and the latch.

No display|No 12V control power, or the fridge is off|Check the fridge fuse, 12V at the board, and the control panel connector. Turn the fridge on.

Flashing temperature|Backup Operating System (BOS) is active|The main control failed and the fridge is on a basic backup. Service the control board.

AC rE|Internal control fault|Cycle 12V power. If it returns, replace the control board.

AC HE|Internal control fault|Cycle 12V power. If it returns, replace the control board.

Sr|Internal control fault|Cycle 12V power. If it returns, replace the control board.

Reset rules

Do not keep resetting a code. Reset once after you fix the cause. A code that returns right away points to a real fault. Write down the code and the mode (LP or AC) first.

Common Norcold failures

Cooling unit failure (the big one). Thermistor out of range or failed. Dirty burner and weak electrode. Low 12V and bad grounds. Element or its thermal fuse open. Door switch or panel failure. Lack of ventilation behind the fridge.

Many no co and no cooling calls are really low 12V, poor level, or blocked vents. Prove those first.

Before working on a Norcold 1200 series, check the maker's recall lookup with the model and serial. Some models had a fire-risk recall.
